Movement Festival: Body & Soul Opening Party

4 / 6 / 2022

Our first night of Movement Festival 2022 started with the official opening party Body & Soul, which took place at Spot Lite, a new 5,000-square-foot venue/bar/record shop located on the east side of Detroit. The walls of the venue are littered with art, including skateboards by artists like Mars-1 and Tara McPherson, drug test packaging with paintings of cartoon characters by Ben Frost, and dozens of framed blotter acid prints by various artists.

The doors to the party opened at 8pm and the dance floor was completely alive by 10pm. The walls vibrated with the base from DJ Sets by Francois K, Joe Clausell, and Danny Krivit, who continued playing music well into the next morning for anyone who could handled that amount of House music directly before a three day long House festival.

The local Detroit talent brought out a massive crowd who were all treated to free pre-rolled joints by the event’s sponsor, JARS, a Midwest cannabis company who will also be the title sponsor for the Detroit Stage at Movement all weekend long.

We were lucky enough to get linked up with Detroit-based photographer Jimmy Goldfinger who shot the party for us and will continue his photo coverage of Movement with us for the rest of the weekend.
